Perfect Party Dress - Ooh! La La! Couture

I decided to take my daughter shopping for her birthday party dress after school last week and knew right where to go. We found the dress at a boutique in Rockville Centre which I discovered while on a campaign run for my husband. Campaigning helped me learn more about my community including the discovery of a fabulous boutique, Kids Cottage, which has one of a kind merchandise that can't be found in department stores. Ooh! La La! Couture is the place to go for your little princess or prince. Not only will my daughter look super cute in her ensemble (not pictured), but other notable tots who rock this brand include Sam, daughter of Tiger & Elin Woods, Sean Combs' twin girls, Heidi Klum's daughter, Leni, and China Anderson, who starred in the final episode of "Grey's Anatomy last May. Click here for photos. I had no idea the dress my daughter selected after taking five dresses to the dressing room has been rocked on Red Carpets by such posh tots.

Michelle Obama Speaks at my Alma Mater

Looks like I graduated 12 years too early or I would have been able to stand in the crowd at WSU and watch a woman whom I greatly admire adress the crowd on the importance of mentoring. I would have been on cloud nine. Instead I scrolled through the photos and read an article by Detroit Free Press columnist and fellow mommy Rochelle Riley whom I used to work with while I was a publicist in Detroit. She's a lovely lady. I think I'll call her to catch up. She was the one who also wrote the article on me and other seven brides whose videographer's truck was broken into holding our precious wedding videos. So he said...but this blog is not about that. It's about Mentoring Michelle Obama. Don't you just love her?

Mentoring is sooooo important. Some friends and I had a mentoring program in Detroit years so this is why this visit by the FLOTUS to Detroit means a lot to me. I hope some of my girls were in attendance. I hope she comes to New York.

Crystal "Mama Sox" Bowersox Make Toledo Proud!

Honestly, I couldn't tell you when the season finale of American Idol is on, but my guess is that it's this week or next. Simon Cowell is making his interview rounds, I heard on the radio yesterday that we're down to two contestants. AND....one of the top two is not only a mother, but she's from Toledo!! That's my hometown for those that don't know so I'm especially proud of Toledo being in the spotlight. The last time we were in the spotlight was during the last Presidential election when Joe the Plumber brought unwanted attention to the Glass City.

The airport is so small you can stand in one spot and see all 4 gates unless they improved it.

I happened to be in Toledo when she came to do her city tour. I didn't attend any of the festivities but did watch an interview or two when she received the key to the city from the Harley riding mayor. I guess everyone needs a gimmick to get elected, right? I haven't watched a full episode of AI because when I did watch a bit I was NOT impressed at all by the performances. I hate bad singing and bad performances not to mention the clothing/costumes were horrible. Anyhoo...I wish Mama Sox the best and bring it home, although I haven't called it home for 15 years. It's still home, though!

Michelle Obama Reveals Malia's Upcoming Laundry Chores

Today's children have a sense of entitlement about them. I see that in my four year old daughter already. Her father and I are beginning to discuss how to handle this before it gets out of control. We usually get her what she wants but are beginning to teach her that if she does random acts of kindness, or eats all of her dinner, puts her dish in the sink, or picks up after herself she will get a silver star on the chart. Once she accumulates many stars we then grant her wish. She needs to know that she needs to work for what she wants. I do not want to raise a bratty child. I am not having that. My children will not embarrass me in public. Our children have more than we have ever had at this young age. They have TVs, XBox, IPods, cell phones, and lap tops in their rooms all before the age of 8. I also think it's time that my daughter starts doing household chores. While it's fun to mop or play like she's mopping, I want to ride the wave before she realizes she's doing a chore and assign her a daily task. No, I won't have her mop but she can do something like emptying a few small garbage cans, right? What about picking up her toys in her room or the family room? You have to start somewhere, right? Even the Obama girls have responsibilities and they have a full-time staff to wait on them hand and foot.

Louis is a Cutey!

I can't wait to share stories about year 2 of our 7 year marriage, meeting Queen Rainia of Jordan, and my daughter's participation in a local high school's pre-school program. But for now, today's hot topic is...

At least this man will never cheat on her. Read here for more on the story. A 3.5 month old baby will definitely keep her mind pre-occupied.
